Thor:Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, MCU. It stars Chris Hemsworth coming back to play the God of Thunder, along with Natalie Portman as the Mighty Thor (female Thor) and Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Taika Waititi and Russell Crowe. The film is a certificate as a 12A which means that children under 12 can watch the films as long as them are with an adult. Children will want to go and see this film, it has everything that they would want; a story line, plenty of actions scenes, comedy and quirky one liners. I went to see this myself with my dad. Thor: Love and Thunder is a fun popcorn movie and is suitable for all the family to watch, relax and enjoy. The film begins with the villain, Gorr, played by the brilliant Christian Bale, who we all know from also playing Batman in the dark knight trilogy. We get a good introduction to Gorr and the main plot of the film. Then it flips to Thor flighting a battle with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It was good to see the Guardians and Thor together again, it is just a pity there wasn’t more scene time with the Guardians, there is some good chemistry between Chris Prat, Star-Lord, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. I think that Thor in a Guardian’s movie would be brilliant, he and Chris Prat would be able to bounce off one another. However, what we got in the film was good and, it gives a snapshot of Thor and the guardians living today. Maybe Thor will get a part in Guardians Vol 3? When the opening battle is over, the Guardians and Thor get several messages on their computer about a guy who calls himself ‘The God Butcher’. Thor recognises an old friend and he and the guardians spit up to deal with this new threat. Now, this is the third time we see Natalie Portman, Dr. Jane Foster, after the event of the second Thor Film, Thor: The Dark World. So, in that time the audience doesn’t know what happened to her apart from a few one liners in the Avengers movies. Her story starts with her character going through cancer treatment with no sign of the cancer leaving. So, she goes on a journey and travels to New Asgard where she sees Thor’s ex-weapon, Mjolnir, broken in several pieces from last Thor film, Ragnarök, and in that small scene with Jane and looking at Mjolnir the audience can see some movement coming from the pieces. When Jane and Thor are united with each other it adds another element to the films that helps the film develop, with Jane in Love and Thunder, it adds more comedy to the film between her and Thor and some other nice comedy moments between Thor and his ex-weapon, and even with his current weapon, Storm Breaker. In both Thor and Avengers’ films, when things go wrong, Thor maybe faced with doubt, however he uses Mjolnir as a way to ensure himself of his own self-worth and the worth of the power of Thor. This is where the human side of Thor’s character comes out, I think? As we go through life there are going to be times where we may lose our way and we relay on our beliefs to get us through challenging times. When watching this film the Mjolnir scenes add some light-hearted comedy, and in ‘Love and Thunder’ the comedy is good because Thor, even after the events of Endgame, is still asking or wondering, if he is still worthy of Mjolnir. This film is really a good feel space adventure full of fun, one liners, comedy, drama, action and romance. All the elements that you need in a film that makes the audience stay for the duration. The drama factor makes ‘Love and Thunder’ a serious film to watch, and the comedy is carefully added into areas of the film which provides comical relief for the audience. As my dad always tells me, “it’s not real you know”. So, if you are looking for a good film to watch, to take your mind of work, then this is the perfect escape story for all the family.
